Flash Drive

I run WinXP at the moment and have purchased a 16GB Flash Drive to backup precious files/programs.I have plugged into a USB socket and I assume it has been installed although no instal process was seen.
No instructions were given with the purchase and I just don`t know how to operate the thing. How do I transfer say MY Documents to it and when other stuff has been transferred to it how do I check what is recorded on it overall. As you may have guessed I am no technophobe.
My ultimate aim is to upgrade to Win7 and then transfer stuff from the Flash Drive to Win 7.

Are you seeing it in My Computer / Disk Management?

Also, what make & model is it? G

Right click a file select send to and the drive should be listed.

If not listed then May be windows hasn't recognised and installed it

Device manager - Action - scan for new hardware.
