firewall problem

When I try to turn on the microsoft firewall on xp i get this error message:

Cannot enable shared access

Error 1061: The service cannot accept control messages at this time.

Go to a command prompt and type this...

sc queryex sharedaccess

Whats the results?

the command prompt pops up and then closes before i can do anything

Start run and type cmd..then use the command prompt

Type this into run "eventvwr.msc", click on system, what error massages are you getting? Are you on a network? Do you use ICS

"2 START_PENDING" could be the problem, are you on a network?

there are a lot of messages - too much to find all the errors, but most are from the service control manager, others are from: DCOM, term service, irevents, w32time, sbp2port etc.

Is Internet connection sharing enabled? if so turn it off.
