i have just upgraded to Win XP.my problem is i get a lot of pop ups.

How can i instal a firewall on my pc. any other ideas of stopping these pop-ups???????

im using Telewest broadband.pliz help

A firewall will not stop popups. If you have XP with Service Pack 2 the XP firewall is turned on by default.

You need an effective popup blocker. One of the best comes with the google toolbar, download it from click here - you'll find it right at the bottom of the page - click on Business Solutions. As a bonus it adds a ggogle search to your IE toolbar - it's great.

Turn off messenger.

Windows XP Home

1. Click Start->Settings ->Control Panel

2. Click Performance and Maintenance

3. Click Administrative Tools

4. Double click Services Scroll

5. down and highlight "Messenger"

6. Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.

7. Click the STOP button.

8. Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar

9. Click OK




Windows XP Professional
