I've tried the Firefox forum but no one has come back to me. A simple question really. How do I copy my bookmarks to also use on new laptop please?

If the two machines are networked then you can use the Firefox add-on Foxmarks to synchronize the two systems so that any bookmark changes on one will take effect on the other.

If the two are not connected then use Mozbackup
you can use it to transfer your entire profile (or just your bookmarks if that is all you want ) from one machine to the other.

Bookmarks
Organise Bookmarks
Go to import and Back up but open Export HTML

then save it on my USB pen

or

You could e-mail to yourself and pick it up on the laptop.

Importing is a reverse of the above.

There might be a better way of doing it but mine only takes a minute or two.

The beauty of Mozbackup is that if you already have Firefox set up the way you like it on one machine (themes/add-ons/extensions etc) Mozbackup will get your new Firefox installation looking and working exactly the same way with one backup/restore operation.
It also means you will have a safe backup of your profile if your original ever becomes corrupted.

thank you very much. I hope to connect but am not holding my breath!

You do not need the two machines connected to use Mozbackup.
Download and intall it on both machines. Take a backup profile from you original machine using Mozbackup and save it to some transferable media (CD or USB flash drive).
Insert the CD or flash drive into the new laptop and use Mozbackup again (the one on the laptop this time)to restore the saved profile onto the laptop.
