When I try to start Firefox I get a dialogue telling me it's already running.

Nothing showing in Task Manager.

Any ideas (apart from a re-boot)?

I had a similar problem to this and I created a new profile and used that and it seemed to have sorted out the problem !!
I am sure more knowledgeable members of the forum will post soon and will be able to point you in the right direction .
Is it just me but does anyone else think Firefox is not up to what it was before( seems slower ,more bugs!!it could just be my computer getting bogged down a bit ) ??

I got rid of it some time ago.

I am perfectly happy with Firefox.

I did use FF and Chrome, but using IE8 happily now.

How did you create a new profile?

I had that a while back. I found the only way to sort it was a reboot. Even getting into task manager didn't sort it. Currently using Opera and haven't had a problem since.

Unfortunately that requires me to start Firefox, which, of course, I cannot do, that is why I posted!

could be related to an add on.
Try Going into task manager and end the firefox process or processes if more than one.Restart Firefox....enable one add on at a time to identify the culprit or create a new profile as suggested.
Have you tried Start>allprograms>mozilla>mozilla safe mode.Theres an option to disable add ons/reset toolbars or words to that effect.
