File recovery on CD-ROM

  ch0pper 16:29 26 Oct 2003

I have two CDs filled with files from my old PC.

My new PC is unable to find the files and reports the CDs as empty.

I read recently about some file recovery s/ware that works on CDs.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

were the CD's written to?

If you used a "packet writing" technique, i.e. a drag and drop method using InCD, or similar, the New PC will need to have appropriate software to be able to read them.

Have you tried viewing the CDs on another PC?

I believe Easy CD Creator comes with a CD recovery utility. I personallt prefer CD/DVD Diagnostics obtainable from click here

The whole problem is that I HAVE tried to get to the files on 4 different PCs.

The s/ware (Roxio) told me that it was making the CD readable on any machine.

Instead, it seems to have made the data unreadable - whenever I try to look at the CD I am told that it is empty.

I KNOW that I dragged in some 400 MB to one CD and 500 to another.

As for HOW the CDs were written, I have no idea.

I simply used the Roxio s/ware to make a 'data' CD, then accepted the offer to make the CD readable in any machine.

Did you finalise to CD?.

Have you tried the Roxio's Direct CD Recovery utility. This should at least tell you if it can be read and recover it if it can.

Easy Creator 4 used an older disc format which is hard to read on newer systems.
