Fatal Error loading XP

  [DELETED] 03:10 13 Sep 2003

Installing Windows XP over Win98. The installation part finished ok and was in the proccess of setting up when the following Fatal Error message appeared:

An error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing.
One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed,
data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Can you advise please what it means

If you have two sticks of memory installed try again after removing one, if same thing happens try replacing the first stick and removing the other one.

I had an installation of XP that would not install with the two sticks of memory installed have subsequently read that windows XP can have a problem installing with two memory sticks installed.

Far better to put XP on your computer doing a clean install also download the six floppy disks from Microsoft so that you boot from the floppys and then follow the prompt and your CD prompt of coarse you will loose all your data so back up what you want to save you should never install XP in my view over W98 or ME it spells trouble later.
