is it possible to convert windows xp from fat32 to ntfs file system?
According to my Help and Search section you can convert from FAT 32 to NTFS with XP, I'm using XP pro and I did.
Click Start, Run, type cmd in the box and press Enter.
In the command prompt window, at the C:\> prompt, type:
convert c: /fs:ntfs
and press Enter.
Because XP is running on drive c, you'll get a message telling you that it can't gain access to the drive, would you like to schedule a conversion when the computer next restarts.
Say yes by pressing Y. Press enter.
Exit the command prompt. Restart computer. conversion will take place before Windows is loaded.
This should not affect your data. But to be cautious you should still back up any important files.
Emphasising what temp003 says, back up anything important. Although the conversion normally goes without a hitch, I once had a failure and had to do a full re-install of XP.
Only do this if you are not dual-booting. FAT32 operating systems and boot disks cannot read ntfs volumes.
