Windows 7

FAP**.tmp files appear on my desktop when I download anything? This only started about an hour ago and at the moment there 46. Each one has a different number hence the astrixes. Once they appear the don't go unless I delete them. If I right click on any one of them under the tab 'General' it says...

Type of file: TMP File (.tmp)

Opens with: Windows Shell Common (then it shows a button marked 'Change')

Down the bottom under the heading 'Attributes:' there two boxes 'Read-Only' and 'Hidden'. What would happen if I were to check the 'Hidden' box?

(1) - What are they?

(2) - Should they be going in the 'temp' file?

(3) - How do I get rid of them?

Were you using Firefox to download? or do you use a download accelerator program?

Firefox 'Yes'

Accelerator 'No'

Just prior to all this I installed a programme called 'WinZip' but then I uninstalled it almost imeadiately. Because when I opened it, it turned out to be a trial. Not free as I thought.

When it was installing it said it had to associate itself with 'Windows Shell'

Have you recently had a flash player update?

  Graphicool1 19:44 13 Nov 2012

Yes, a few days ago. But this thing only started this afternoon?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling Flash Player to re-establish the file associations in Windows shell

Thanks Fruit Bat /\0/\ that did the trick.
