I use a program called family historian and find it does everything I want, plus it uses the gedcom file format, which allows you to swap files with other compatible software.

I have used Family Tree Maker for the last three years and find it excellent.

Genes Connected here is an excellent web site for beginners and advanced family history researchers.

Good luck - family history is an addictive hobby.

Family Tree Maker not bad, but Yank so will not accept Baptism dates instead of Birth date for pre 1837 ancestry.
FTM good on charts & notes
There are better programs have a look at GENUKI site & query software

Have been at the family history game for over 10 years

I've been using Brother's Keeper (shareware) for a number of years now and pretty satisfied with it. Lots of possibilities with photos etc. too.
Good luck

Hi, I have used Family Tree Version 2.0 but prefer the FREE Personal Ancestral File program from the Latter day Saints which seems to accept any kind of data you may wish to enter.
Have a look at click here for the download.
