Failed backlight on a Packard-Bell lappie

  jack 09:06 04 Aug 2009

Is this a DIY job?
Any experiences any one, with obtaining parts and doing it?

Had such a machine passed my way yesterday.
Proved it was the backlight-
Dim screen image, machine works OK with external monitor.

assuming it is a standard lamp being used and in an extractable holder yes. But if non standard you might find it almost impossible to obtain a spare. A specialist lighting centre may be able to find one.

I have suggested they find a repairer

Get an estimate first, as the backlight and/or inverter can be be expensive, let alone repair costs - it might be worth considering a new lappie. David

The backlight is built into the LCD screen and as such is not user replacable

Depending on your skill level you could get and fit a replacement LCD panel probably your lowest cost repair option

or even a complete used top section from another same model and size PB laptop with a good working screen

You can get service manuals to download which will explain the how to
