I've put a Toshiba hdd in a standard 2.5" SATA to USB external caddy and plugged it into another Toshiba laptop. Red light comes on on the caddy but the laptop doesn't recognise it - new drive doesn't appear in My Computer.
Any ideas ?
This is the external caddy / case
Does the drive appear in disk management?
was the drive faulty when you took it out of the old Toshiba laptop?
Does device manager see the USB caddy?
Take a read External Hard Drive not Recognized
Have tried another Toshiba 2.5" from yet another Toshiba laptop and it was recognised immediately.
Chances on the original problem being the hdd connection ?
Chances on the original problem being a bad hdd ?
If it's the latter, is it recoverable ?
The problem HDD did not appear in device management. The one i have just tried did.
Toshiba A did not begin to spin in the caddy and was not recognised, despite red light coming on
Toshiba B did begin to spin, was recognised and was accessible.
Certainly looks like a bad hard drive.
