external hdd

as my little 40gb hard drive is busting at the seams i thought of going the whole hog and getting a 400gb external drive,the one i have in mind is the wd my book essential usb 7200 rpm hoping that it will see me out. i'm running a dell dimension 5100 with win xp sp2.will it work ok, i do record a lot of music onto my pc and eventually to cd.

I see no problem Mike,though i would prefer an internal drive personally.Unless you need this to be portable of course.

Yes, but for me I would Partition it, as it makes cluster sizes smaller. Plus you would know better where you put things

The difference with Internal is the BIOS or OS may not recognise the whole disc
