External hard drives

  mullet 22:43 21 Dec 2003

this be my first posting so hi everyone.

am looking for a 40-60gb external hard drive to plug into a usb. the myriad of what's out there makes it hard to decide. basically all i'm looking for is to back up large (500mb) folders.

any suggestions and why?

thanks in advance

Why not an External USB CD Rewriter?

these folders will get larger in time. some are .pst so cant be divided.

Just a "heads up" - don't let a PST file go over 2 GB - it'll corrupt and then you'll need an unsupported tool from MS to fix it....

Anyway I'll be watching this thread as i'm looking for an external caddy for a hard drive on USB. Maybe it would be cheaper to look for a caddy and buy a cheap decent hard drive to put in it. That way you can have lots of smaller drives or two backup drives rather than one fixed in a case only designed for that HDD.

Perhaps someone can suggest a caddy?

click here Is a good 40 Gb Seagte drive to put in it. There is a 60 Gb version too..

Did that make sense?

i forgot to mention i am a technofool and looking for ease. with a difference of £20-30 i may as well opt for a ready made item.

all i want is a drag and drop option. i cant see the .pst's going over 1 gig.

What version of Windows you running?

ME (he humbly speaks)

are these 'enclosures'?

Hmmm - thats the word i was looking for.... (tired - i'll exit this thread now)

Sorry a caddy allows you to slot a hard drive in and out of the front of a case.

An enclosure is what you are looking for....

Windows Me - ok its fairly up to date...

Hopefully someone less tired will suggest something....

thanks Jester, you've planted a seed anyway.
