hi could anyone advise me please i have been given a new 80g external western digital hard drive which has come preformated with fat32 as i have wxp pro i would like to format it to suit xp file system what is the best way to do this i am going to use it for backups for photos ect

You can use as is on XP

or use disk management to convert to NTFS

However As FAT32 you could plug it into an older machine and it would be recognised ok this is not the case with NTFS only XP can see NTFS.

You could also get a USB case and it would work nicely on XP and 98 computers through the USB slot. A case roughly about £20
