External card reader-PC says OK but can't find it to use

  Grandad99 21:44 21 Aug 2014

Plugged the new item into USB and it's listed in Devices and Printers as being OK but it doesn't show on the desktop or anywhere that lets me use it.

I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium.

The internal USB card reader on my computer does not show until a card is inserted it could be the same with your USB card reader.

Thanks. I've tried both with and without the card being inserted but neither work.

Plug in a card.

if the card is formatted and has data on it should appear in Explorer after a few seconds

if not have a look in disk management to see if it has appeared under removable media.

Doesn't appear in Explorer but is in Device Manager>Disk Drives with status "This device is working properly."

Just need to be able to access it!

Have you put a card into one of the slots on the Card Reader?

  rdave13 20:29 22 Aug 2014

Grandad99, have you tried updating drivers for it via device manager?

  Grandad99 21:37 22 Aug 2014

lotvic - yes, tried both with and without cards

rdave13 - have tried and the driver is already the latest version.

"Go to Start -> Computer -> Organize -> Folder and search options -> click View tab -> uncheck "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder" -> OK"

Shutdown the PC. Connect your card reader to an usb port. Boot up. See if it recognises it now.
