Got half way downloading a programme from CD and the next thing I heard was a terrific bang within CD Rom after dismantling Cd Rom my disc was in very very small pieces.
Can any one give me any idea as to why this houl;d have happened.

Thanks

Sometimes disk is damaged and then centrifugal firce as disc spins at hi revs causes it to shatter.

Hi read speeds of modern CD roms require faster spin speeds.

Have you put in another disk to see if it works. brooken disk may have damaged the laser, tray and or motor system of the CD Rom.

"Hi read speeds of modern CD roms require faster spin speeds."

At 52x speed a cd-rom is running at 26000rpm.
