Exel calculation

  Quickbeam 06:12 28 Jan 2010

How do I go about writing a formula to help me learn the various note positions on a guitar fret board.

ie, I want to put the note values A B C D E F G A into a line of cells, and then have a button that randomly re-orders them. The idea being that I then have to play the random notes as an exercise in finding them naturally on the fret board.

Usually when I think Excel can do something, it can, but I just don't know how to make it:(

Thanks QB

Put those letters into one column. In the next column enter

and copy down to the last cell with your letters. Select both columns and sort by the RAND column to randomise the letters.

I thought that it was going to be incredibly complicated. What is they say about what's under your nose...

Thanks, QB

I've assigned a macro key to it, and I then just have to play the note sequence as fluidly as I can on the fret board when I hit the key.

Thanks again, QB.

I've done MK11 now, with high, low & open string notes.

Used in conjunction with webmetronome.com it's quite an exercise to keep up fluidly.
