Excell. Relative cell or not.

In the 70s I had a spreadsheet that would allow me to copy celss or range of cells with formulas refering to other cells, and I had the option of relative or non reletive copy.
i.e Cell B1 had a formula of [= A1] and I copied this to cell B2 I would of been given the option of relative, i.e. cell B2 [= A2] Or non relative
i.e. cell B2 [= A1].
Over the years I have looked in Excell, current version Office 2000, and failed to find how to do.
Now this would be a very usefull tool. I am aware that using $ makes a reference non relative, but with a long formula, and number of cell to copy over number of relative and non relative to edit each cell with $ then remove it is not practable. Help please?

If I understand, you want the ability to switch relative to absolute or vice versa. Excel does not have a built in method for doing this. But ASAPUtilities does click here

Select the range of cells that you want to change, click on the ASAPUtilities Menu, Formula, Change reference style.

This has saved me countless hours of effort.
