Excel networking

  sms 10:59 10 Jun 2004

I am running an excel spreadsheet as a booking programme.
Is it possible to access through another computer and take bookings at the same time as it is open in the other computer.
Any other suggestions welcome

If I've understood you right, I don't think so. I have two computers networked to each other, (with file sharing enabled), and if I open an Excel file on one, then try to open the same file on the other I get the message: " ..... is being modified by ..... Open as read only or choose notify to be alerted when available".

Mind you, I only have Excel 97 so more up-to-date versions may allow it.

I think that you will need to create a shared workbook http:// support.microsoft.com/?kbid=269860

That's handy to know. Just have to keep saving all the time because any changes don't appear on the other workbook until you've hit save on that computer, and the shortest autosave time is 5 mins, (but that beats having to keep running up and down the stairs!)

Thanks for the info.
Yes it is a shame you have to save all the time for the changes to take effect. Is there a better method or is that the best available

Is there any way to lock the keyboard rather than lock the computer
