Excel loading

When I enter Excel, for some reason it opens all my Office files one after the other.
How can I stop this.

Change the Startup folder: in Excel Tools|Options, General tab. In Excel 2003 clear the box 'At startup, open all files in'.

Further help please. When I try and open a file, I get a blank screen and have to open it within excel.

What have I got wrong now?
