Using Windowws XP home & MS Small Business edition.

When opening Excel files, and for no apparent reason, I now receive a message "AWARE97.XLA: file format is not valid" OK.

No new software loaded recently.

Clicking on OK opens Excel files without problem and operating seems as normal.

What does this mean ?

If it is only an annoyance without any consequence - can this message be deleted?

Thanks, Mottram

is the file extention for Excel addins.

that's the only clue I have.

Open Excel, then from the menu click Tools>addins and see if something there is ticked that might match Aware97, and untick it.

If that cures it then that's the source of the problem identified... but that course of action might not be the best way to cure the problem!

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Which version of Excel is it?

Do you have a scanner?

Omnipage uses this file to link to excel97 programs I think, it will be in office11\startup directory.

aware97.dot does the same job for Word97

Deleting them sorts the error message but may stop you acquiring scanned documents directly into word/excel (if you could anyway)
