Ethernet Controller

  gabby 13:14 21 Dec 2005

In system the ethernet controller shows a yellow question mark. The drivers for my machine were pre-installed but after messing about with partition magic I lost them all. I have recovered most things but I cannot seem to do anything with the ethernet. I have tried Mesh (No reply), and ASUS site (confused) also I tried drivers sites (Cannot find). If it helps this is what I get up:
Ethernet Controller PCI\VEN_10B7&DEV_1700&SUBSYS_80EB1043&REV_12\4&2E98101C&0&28F0 The drivers for this device are not installed.
Hope you can help Gabby

Just installed Everest and ran, shows nothing I understand. My problem is, do I need Motherboard drivers or graphic drivers. I keep reading as much about the problem as I can but it is getting very confusing. Bit more info below:

Board: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P4P800 Rev 1.xx
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 080009 11/06/2003

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (Microsoft Corporation) [Display adapter]

I wanted to know how it described your Ethernet card - or chipset if it's onboard - to see if it had a description that would tell us what model it is. As I'm sure you have found, the numbers and letters that you got from Dev Manager don't tell you what model you have.

This is unusual; mine is listed as a Broadcom Extreme Gigabit Ethernet Controller with the model number. If it's an onboard chip, your best bet is to look again at all the Asus websites. I know they are not very user-friendly but it is the most likely source for the correct driver.

Thanks for trying ade.h I will try again on the asus site. all the best Jim

Have a look on the 3Com website for driver downloads, though bear in mind that with onboard chips, it's often better to go to the motherboard maker's website for these drivers so that you are sure of getting the exact driver version that suits your board.

  ade.h 19:28 21 Dec 2005

Download from the 3Com site if Asus has no suitable driver available on any of its sites.
