Ethernet cable connection

I have a desktop connected to Broadband via a Wanadoo USB Speedtouch modem. I'm using Windows 2000 and I've never networked PCs together.

I have an option to use a work laptop through VPN (Virtual Network) but need to connect the laptop via an Ethernet cable (which I have) as there is no wireless card installed.

What simple options do I have for using my one phone line to retain a broadband connection for my desktop and cable my work laptop to the same connection for VPN?

Thanks, let me know if you need more!

Your best option would be to buy a router, this you connect your telephone line to and the computers via ethernet cable.

"I should have said, adsl modem router", switch :P

make sure it contains a switch, most commonly 4 port, so that each device can connect individually to the router/modem/switch via it's own Ethernet cable

remember that you need straight through cables, EIA/TIA 568-B
