Error Defragmenting

  [DELETED] 14:43 31 Jul 2003

Win 98 and trying to defrag. Get following message. "Windows cannot finish defragmenting this drive because it has encountered a problem. Click Help and carry out the instructions for running Scandisk, and then try defragmenting again". I run scandisk but it finds no errors, but still I get this message when runnibg defrag.

Any ideas.

Probably because you have something running in the background - exit all programs and disable screensaver whilst defragging.

Try running chkdsk first and repair any Hdisk errors.

Is this the same as scandisk? Perhaps it may be best if possible to run Defrag in 'safe mode'?

Try this it really is brilliant. In fact so good that I purchased the more sophisticated paid for version.

Try Disabling all running programs using ctrl, alt & delete EXCEPT for explorer and systray, disable screensaver and 'quicklaunch' taskbar. Works for me on 98SE.
