Encoding video

Is it normal for Nero to take 45 mins to encode 2% .

It depends on the format to which you are encoding, the speed of your machine, the amt of memory you have and multiple other variables. I have never used nero to encode but some formats are slow. Give some more details of what you are doing / formats used etc.

My old PII 350

Took 4 hours to encode to 1% of MPEG ;-)

Well i stopped it...Didnt want to wait.

As Lú-tzé it all depends.

On older, slower machines I've heard of many people who start the process to render their edits and leave it to run overnight!!

High power newer PCs no doubt will fly through the process that much more quickly, but is something that needs and demands a huge amount of processor power and time.

Even with a 2.4Ghz it takes in the region of 1.5 hours to encode 1 hour of VCD. This is with Nero. Even longer for SVCD. As phredd says, start the job and go and do something else. Can take longer.

Sorry that should read '1.5 hours for 1/2 hour of VCD'
