Enabling NetBIOS in W98se

After looking at a previous thread regarding networking problems

I have a pc running XP Home and 2 running 98se all networked. Every now and again the 2 pc's with 98 on can't see anything on the network.

On both 08 pc's I enabled WINS and entered the ip address as prompted then checked that NetBIOS was enabled and found that the tick box to enable NetBIOS was ticked but greyed out.

Does this mean that NetBIOS is enabled as required and can't be unselected or that NetBIOS is not enabled?

How many other protocols do you have installed?

You have NetBIOS installed and bound to
TCP/IP and only TCP/IP. Windows won't let you unbind it from TCP/IP
because that would disable NetBIOS.
