Empty My Network Places

  mjweldon 11:37 27 May 2008

Can anyone help with an odd problem my PC has developed while I've been away? I'm running XP Home and the contents of My Network Places has disappeared.

I'm expecting to see the shared documents from this computer and my NAS but it's completely empty. They were there last week when I went away but now nothing. I can still access the NAS if I type it's address in manually.

Can anyone offer any help?

Run the Network Setup Wizard again

Open 'My Network Places', right-click in the empty area of the window and select 'Refresh'.

I ran the Network Setup Wizard and it had no effect, likewise refreshing didn't solve the problem.

Oddly enough the NAS has now reappeared, although the shared documents haven't.

Any other computers in the network?

Right Click on your desktop - Go to properties
Click the desktop Tab - Click Customize desktop at the bottom
At the top of the next screen it shows all the icons for your desktop, you just check the ones you want.
