Editing Scanned Documents

Is there any software available which allows the editing of scanned documents?

Are we talking images or text, either way there are scores of them.

A simple scan gives an Image[extention Tiff,BMP,JPG -etc] The text is like a photocopy
you cannot edit it.

Most scanners come with OCR [Optical Character Recognition] thrown in.
As Venennas says there are many types and each works in different ways.
Some will take the page and do it just like that
Others have to be treated with care ,and a page with columns and panels needs to be scanned each column/panel as a separate page.
It is a learning curve.

A scanned item produced an 'image' file[Tiff,Bitmap etc.] This will only produce an image
like a photocopier.
Sanners are usually sold with OCR [optical caracter recognition ]Software.
This scanns an image then concerts it to a text file. They can be quite fdifficult to getto grips with
depenting on the particular softeare and the version -like all else it can be a steep learning curve.
