E-mail or Email or something else?

  Sir Radfordin 09:15 06 Feb 2004

Sorry if this has been asked before or was covered in the Disc/Disk debate but I can't find it!

What is the correct way to write Electronic Mail is it:

a) email or

b) e-mail or...something else?

And no you can't go 50/50 or phone a friend!

  DieSse 09:19 06 Feb 2004

I doubt there is a "correct" way. Does it make a difference?

  Sir Radfordin 09:21 06 Feb 2004

Academic writing!

It may not make a difference providing I remember to stick to the same format all the way through!

Who decides these things anyway?

"Who decides these things anyway?"

Common useage, usually then codified by authoritative dictionaries (eg OED) - who often give alternative spellings if they're both in common use.

Not that I would consider it as authoritative as the OED ( ;-)) ) - but Word allows email, e-mail, Email, and E-mail.

the correct way to write email is( E-Mail )

  The Spires 10:55 06 Feb 2004

AOL used to call it Post.

  Sir Radfordin 11:00 06 Feb 2004

...and now they call it AOL® Mail !!!!

  DieSse 11:13 06 Feb 2004

Says who?? - please quote your source.

  Sir Radfordin 11:15 06 Feb 2004

...and if you can quote a source please make sure you do it in the Harvard format to save me editing it ;)
