E-mail error message Cannot connect

I get the following error message when I try to collect my e-mail.

Pop Virgin net. Protocol POP3. Server response ERR AVG POP3. Proxy Server. Cannot connect to E-Mail Server (Safe POP3 Proxy) Port110, Secure (SSL) No Server Errorr.
Ox800ccc90. Error No OX800ccc90.

What is causing this and how do I prevent it?

it sounds as though avg is trying to check the emails for viruses but is being prevented by a firewall of somekind. You have to give access to avg in the firewall.
