dvi connection

I'm upgrading my computer and am not sure if my monitor is dvi compatible. The manual says rgb and synchronisation - I'm also not sure if the cable between comp & monitor is different i.e. different connections.

Paddy 75,it says connects via mini d sub & dvi-a. but is a dvi connector different? Sorry but it is all new to me

Analogue are usually with blue connectors DVI usually have white connectors.
