DVD's won't play

I use my PC to play DVD’s on my TV. I can play DVD’s bought at the ‘Poundshop’ without difficulty using either Windows Media Player version 10 or Real Player v10 (free version). However, more expensive DVD’s featuring copyright protection will only play on Power DVD or Win DVD. Is this normal please anyone?

no they should be able to play on all players...I can play my DVDs on a number of players including Win Media player, WinDVD, PowerDVD, InterActual DVD player not yet tried Real Player though...I would check all your player settings...

Thank you for your most prompt reply Mr NoelG23. I have examined my settings but still receive the following messages;

Windows Media Player; "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because of a problem with digital copyright protection".

Real Player; "DVD cannot be played as key exchange for DVD copy protection failed".

what version of Win Media Player do you have? I have version 10. I can check the settings when I get home tonight and see what can be done to change this...but I think I know what it could be...were you ever able to play these DVDs on Win Media and Real player before at all?

Thanks again. I have Windows Media Player version 10 installed also. I only purchased the DVD's yesterday so cannot answer your question. However, you do see music CD's on sale printed with warnings such as "This CD will not play on a computer". These DVD's were released in 2002, region 2 with orange triangle "CP (copy protected)" printed on box if this helps.

Once again thank you for your help.

Advised that by installing; DVD Region-Free v3.25 DVD's will now play in Windows Media Player & Real Player. There must be a better way though. Doesn't seem right to assume illegal intent when you simply wish to play DVD's on your PC.
