DVDR/CDR problems

  simmy3232 20:50 06 Nov 2007

I have a HP pavilion with a TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532M DVD recorder/CD recorder. I do not use the CD often but have noted recently that the DVD read and write works fine but I have a problem with the device reading and writing a CD. It does not read either data or audio CDs. I have contacted HP but all their recommended solutions do not work. I think it must be a driver issue but have been unable to start it up having reloaded the driver. Has anyone else had this problem and can offer a solution??

There is an autoupdate programme on the Samsung site. May be a firmware upgrade available.

Have you tried a CD/DVD lens cleaner.

DVD writers have 2 sets of lens so it is quite possible for a writer to be able to read and write to CDs and not be able to do DVDs or vice versa.
I would try a lens cleaner, even if if does nothing you can use it in your hifi and DVD player and its only a couple of quid.
The drive could be faulty as well, it does happen.
