DVD-RW not recordable...

A blank DVD-RW disk(recognised brand)comes up as 'not recordable' using the Toshiba multi-format drive in my new Acer laptop. It recognises the DVD-RW disk but will not write or erase. I have written to DVD-R with no problems. Do I have to format the DVD first? There is no format option I can see in XP.

Yep, you will have to format the DVD-RW according to what you are going to use it for.

You will need additional program to do this.

I think that Windows Media Player 10 has this facility, if you have not already got a program on the laptop.
