The rewriter should be the Master and the DVD-ROM the Slave; enable DMA for both drives. The basic Windows CDROM driver is all that is required for the drives and will be installed when Windows finds New Hardware.
Obviously you will also need burning software such as Nero for the rewriter.
Cable Select requires the proper cables and a mobo that supports the feature.
To get maximum life from the rewriter only use it for burning purposes and the DVD-ROM for DVDs, audio CDs, installing software etc.
