DVD ROM malfunction

  huzzar 17:16 19 Aug 2004

My DVD Rom drive wont read DVDs. What it does do is hang up my computer when it tries to read one. Sometimes after such an attempt my D: drive disappears from My Computer and I have to reboot.

The drive reads all other media without any problems.

My system is an AMD 2000XP with 512 RAM on WinXP Home.

I have had a DVD RW drive fitted some time ago but it has worked with DVDs since then.

Sorry - what I should have added was - any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated

It could be a faulty or loose lead or, alternatively, do you have the rewriter set as Master and the DVD-ROM drive as Slave as should be the case?

if this as stoped working in the last 12 months and it can read cd's the drive more than likely is faulty and should be returned for replacement, repair.

Stuartli & woodchip - thanks for your input, I will check the hardware out this weekend. Thanks again
