DVD-R - formatting

Do you have to format a DVD-R before using it and if so how do you do this ? Thanks

Depends what you are going to use it for.

For copying data from another DVD-R

If you are using PC software like Nero or Roxio then no, you dont have to format it.

Even using DVD Flick, (which has its own burner), I did not have to format a DVD-R.

File size and Nero will shout at you to Format it if it's too big.

Like using In-CD think that is Roxio, and another forgot what it is for Nero

PS if it's a Data CD you should not need to Format it

I've written thousands and thousands of DVDs and CDs and never formatted any of them.

You only need to format if you're using one of those packet writing programs - spawn of the devil - avoid at all costs.
