DVD “Please insert disk in drive “ Problem

  JIMR 17:39 10 Jun 2003

My DVD drive works perfectly, once in a blue moon.

The rest of the time it asks for a disk to be inserted, when there is a disk in the drive.

I insert the DVD, CD-ROM or CD, the light goes on and then nothing.

The drive is two years old and has not been heavily used.

The operating system is Windows ME

I can even right click and eject the disk.

Can anybody help?

I had a similar problem, after wasting money on disc and drive cleaning products I found the only solution was a new drive. My old one was also 2 years old. My new one is much better as specs have improved in the last 2 years.

You can get a good, new drive for £30 or so. It really isn't worth while thinking about repairs.

If you have check everything else and its working, then try a lens cleaner. The lens could be dirty. Just a thought.
