dvd burning help

I have an avi file which is too long to fit as a vcd. I have used avi to dvd to covert it to a dvd file(m2v). My problem now is that Nero 6 does not seem to recognise the m2v file as a dvd, so it won't burn it. Any ideas anyone? Should i get another burning prog.? If so which (preferably free!!)

vinny12345 what are you using to capture the AVI files?

Doesn't your software allow you to convert your movie to MPEG which is smaller than AVI.

after you have converted to dvd you have to author it as well with another program like TMPGEnc DVD Author.
