How do I do this? I have a dv camcorder and a CD/DVD rewriter, as well as a dvd player capable of playing CD-R and DVD-, but still can't seem to get the format correct. Is there a software package that allows me to do this? Any help v gratfully received.

Hardware: You PC need Firewire port (also called IEEE 1394 port or I-Link (only Sony) use it, then you can link DV to PC to get data into PC. If your PC has no Firewire port, you can get a Firewire card around £20 You need a relative large hard disk, over 10GB for one hour video in AVI format. You need a DVD writer to burn final stuff to DVD, you can get a decent one for £50.

Software: You need a package to do video capture, editing and final produce DVD files. There are may packages, Ulead Videostudio 8 (£40) is a very good low cost package and very easy to use.

Thanks for taking the trouble to help TomJerry. I've got all the relevent kit, and dowloaded a trial version of videostudio8 as suggested. Is the correct format to choose avi? instructions all seem to assume that you are going to watch playback on a pc dvd player, rather than the good old telly!

Nero 6.0 is the software you need. what software did you get with your dvd writer?

have got Nero 6, but thought that was more for copying DVD's. Got some terrible sony software called Picture Package (with a DRC-HC30E, in case it makes any difference), but does not seem to know what its doing, and the documentation is worse that hopeless. Also have Intervideo's WinDVD Creator5 and Rocorder5. Tried using them but got a disc with sound out of sync or missing, and lots of frame dropping.

If your dvd player plays cd's, thenyou can convert your avi file from your camcoder into VCD and burn it onto a CD-R or you can use NeroExpress to convert to DVD....TT

If you have Nero 6, launch it using Nero StartSmart. At the top right you can click on CD or DVD and explore your options....TT

If you only have a few options in StartSmart, the icon at the bottom of the screen(with the two people on) toggles between standard and advanced features....TT

Capture in AVI format (easy for editing), after you finish editing, save in MPEG2 (PAL-DVD) format and finally burn to DVD. Videostudio has everything, you do not need any other software.
