DV camcorder connection

Dear all,
I have a canon MV530i camcorder and have just downloaded the Pinnacle studio 30 day trial.
But for some reason the PC wont recognise the camera. It used to a long time ago but now that I fancy trying again I seem to be doing something wrong. Ive turned the camera onto play after pluging it into the firewire port and cant get it to be recognised. I once tried the windows movie maker and it was fine, but now even that wont pick up the camera. Is there something else I should be doing on the camera or does it sound like the 1394 card is at fault. How do I check the card.
Cheers from Cheeky..

Hi Cheeky,

Do you connect the camcorder after switching on your computer?

I would suggest that you connect your camcoder befor switching on your computer. Ifit is still not recognised then have you any thing else that you can connect to the firewire to see if it is working?

Hi, I have the Canon750i and Pinnacle Studio8 and firewire. Have you tried to Capture from within Studio?? I always connect cam after switching on pc.

Hi again, to check card ...... Right-click on My Computer>Properties>Hardware>DeviceManager click on + , highlight IEEE 1394>Properties ...... this will show if it is working.

Hi, yes - Play/VCR mode on Canon. cheekybaldy, have you tried connecting cam via usb to see if pc will 'find' it this way?
