Drives not reading data discs.

Both my dvd rw drive and cd rw drive will not read any data discs. When they try they just crash with a blue screen saying various error messages. Both will play music and dvds ok.

is this a recent problem, what error messages are you getting, are they discs youve burned.

yes this has only started happening in the last day or two.

The error mesage that initially appears is :

FILE NAME EXT(02) + 0000A8B5

are you using the same media to burn?

Do you have norton fire wall and AV?

  kvd70 14:50 25 Aug 2004

The data discs are not ones that i have burned but any data disc is doing this. I do not have norton or av and I have run a virus check etc and all appears to be ok.

not sure, possibly software problem as both drives seem to be affected. Are you running WinME/XP, if so maybe able to use system restore.

Could try holding down shift when closing the tray stops the disc autorunning, if the drive doesnt read it doing this and then clicking the disc icon enables it to be read.
