Do tablet cases with magnetic strips harm my device?

  Bayleyface 13:19 29 Dec 2013

I have recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. I am looking for a protective cover for it but am finding that most of the covers on the market have a built in magnetic strip to allow a sleep/wake facility. Do these strips affect the operation of the tablet? Surely magnets and computers shouldn't mix.

I have had a kindle case with a magnetic catch for two years or more and a Nexus 7 tablet with a magnetic catch and neither device is harmed.

My wife has a Kindle, Samsung Galaxy phone and a Samsung tablet, all in covers with magnetic latches, and none has suffered because of them.

However, do have a look at the reviews.

Like others, I have had no problems, but in some of the reviews, for the cases not the devices, users swear that the catch affects the functioning of their device.
