Do I need a Firewall?

I'm about to try a LiveCD Linux. It comes on a bootable CD and operates by the user changing the boot option to CD as the PC is started. All the functions run from CD and at no time is the HDD used unless you decide to save something to HDD.

As the PC isn't running XP but Linux and no access is made to the HDD can I initially run this without a Firewall? Connection to the Internet is very simple through Ethernet or WiFi.

Any thoughts?

Yes you can.
The live CD's contain a firewall.

alan227 - thanks, I'm now using the Koppix LiveCD and was very pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to use. I found the Firewall easily and was connected to the Internet within 30 seconds.
