Does anyone know of a free detection /removal tool for DNSChanger trojan in Windows XP?
I have had a couple of incidents with this one, AVG didn't pick it up at all, Malawarebytes free did, I removed files and it didn't pick up again on second scan but symptoms persist, in fact I had several instances of resycled\boot.com and similar stuff with word resycled and boot in it when opening drives.

Have googled it but 99% of results refer to Mac only, the couple of Windows related ones seemed very very difficult to carry out for an average user like me, all about manually removing registry files with the risk of destroying system.

Could this kind of trojan cause HDD failures or bad sectors?

run avg in safe mode to try to get rid of resycled\boot.com
