When I insert a floppy disk in my WinXP sp2 a windows comes up saying, Disk is not formatted. Do you want to format disk?
What does this mean? Sorry if I sound stupid this morning ?

To use a floppy dis, it must be formatted - ie prepared for use.

Has the disk been used before?

If not, then select yes and format it.

IF you have data on it, then it may be unreadable.

By the way, some disks formatted with other versions of Windows don't like XP. That could be the problem.

I said OK to formal it and then It said after a while that the disk cannot be formatted. Strange because I used other floppy disks from this pack some time ago and they worked OK.Its a new box of MAXWELL MF2HD which are windows and DOS formatted it says.

Could be the drive that has failed...

Have you tried any other disks in it?

I tried two disks before with the same result. Now I tried another one and it worked normal. Crazy !?!
Thanks for your help.
