disk defragementer

just tryed defrag
box comes up, disk defragementer could not start
got red cross top right ok at bottom thats it.
no error code nothing,down loaded updates today but nothing else ?

That's a new one, try system restore to a point before you installed the updates, then run defrag again and see if it works.

Post back with result.

on RUN type in services.msc

look down the list for diskeeper, set the option to automatic.

What defragger are you using? If it's the default XP defragger, then you won't find any references to Diskeeper in the services list.

If you are indeed using the full version of Diskeeper (i.e. the commercial version) then you will find "Diskeeper" or a variation thereof listed in the services column and you should set it to automatic. Also, you should make sure that the Event Log service is enabled and running...I think that is necessary for defrag to run.

You should be able to find it from Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools.

However, I much prefer Auslogics Disk Defrag (free) - quicker and very effective:

go system tools , shows disk defrag same result
could not start, xp standard program defrag dont
use any thing else
disk keeper if i only use standard xp can i forget this and stop looking for it

Go to C:\WINDOWS\inf\ right click `dfrg.inf` and select Install. Reboot.
