Disabling Windows Defender before activated

Could someone pleae let me know how I can disable/remove Windows Defender?

I haven't yet activated it on my laptop but the window keeps coming up every time I boot up, asking me to activate it.

Having searched your forums, it seems it's of little use but can only find how to disable it once it is opened.

So, do I have to start it up before I can disable it or remove it? Posts suggest it can't be removed/uninstalled - is this the current situation?

Thanks very much

Apologies. Should have said running Vista, but maybe that goes unsaid!

Launch Windows Defender - go to TOOLS - OPTIONS - here you will find a LIST of configuration options. Scroll down to the end of the LIST - find section called ADMINISTRATOR OPTIONS - deselect the USE OF WINDOWS DEFENDER box - press SAVE button.
If UAC (User Account Control) is turned ON you will need to confirm that you wish to continue with the change. Now you will receive a notification saying WINDOWS DEFENDER IS TURNED OFF - click SAVE and you are done !

Try msconfig and untick it from start up.
