disabling msn messenger

  fazza8 19:48 01 Mar 2005

We have a 5 room network in our school running XP and various applications. The bane of our lives is kids who chat to each other using MSN Messenger. Some of the messages have been offensive and the whole thing ruins their concentration. Can it be disabled in any way? We have a programme called Junglebytes on the system.

this may help click here

If that doesnt this may, type it into the run box on the PC's in question

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

That will stop messenger runing on the machines.

A less drastic approach would be to rename the relevant folder C:\Program Files\Messenger to something like C:\Program Files\Messengerstop
This would prevent Windows Messenger from launching. To re-enable simply change the name back.

1)Click Start , click control panel.

2)Click performance and maintenance.

3)Click Administrative tools.

4)Double click Services.

5)Scroll down to Messenger and right click it.

6)Click properties.

7)Click Stop button.

8)In Startup Type scroll bar , select Disabled.

9)Click Apply , click OK.

That should stop the little blighters !

This is a good way of removing it completely......click here and I would suggest applying a sound thrashing to the little oiks which will install a healthy regard for respect and their elders.

Cheers. I'll do it today

Careful, you are no longer allowed to Physically Chastise the "oiks" unless there are no 'visable marks'.. but three hours of Opera and Classical Music works wonders, and leaves no visable marks!!!

Another good way of chastising them is to give them detention for being persistently adolescent in a built up area !
